Keratinopathic Ichthyosis

Superficial epidermolytic ichthyosis

  • Beginning: Birth.
  • Clinical picture: Moderate.
  • Non-syndromic: Does not affect other organs besides the skin.

The degree of prevalence of this type of ichthyosis less severe than epidermolytic ichthyosis is less than 1 in every 1,000,000 births. Although the symptoms are similar, they are less severe (with more superficial shedding of the skin).

At birth the skin appears normal or with superficial blisters in the flexion areas, calves, abdomen and extremities.

There is frequent itching, which can lead to scratching lesions, but there is no erythema or bad skin odor.
